Bangladesh Free Trade Union Congress (BFTUC) in association with the International Labour Organization (ILO) conducted an Occupational Health & Safety (OSH) Outreach Training for garments workers on 13 and 20 January 2017 (1st Program) at Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Dhaka. The second Program was held on 3rd and 10th February 2017 at Student Care High School, Monipur, Mirpur Dhaka and the third program was held at 17th and 24th February at BIM, Dhaka. These outreach training programs were conducted under ILO RMG program in Bangladesh.
The aims and objectives of these programs were to raise awareness on occupational health and safety at workplaces of garments factories. 90 garments workers were participated from 20 garments factories in these training programs. Among them 87 are female and 3 are male.
The inaugural session of the Training was addressed by the president of Bangladesh Free Trade Union Congress (BFTUC) Mr. Abdul Mukit Khan and coordinated by Mr. Pulak Ranjan Dhar. The training sessions were facilitated by the Co-trainers Yasmin Akter Rani and Jubayer Sarkar from BFTUC.
Various Modules were followed in the trainings. The modules covered were health and safety of workers at workplaces, kinds of health problems occur during work and way of removal or prevent, types of workplace accidents and way of prevention, safety committee, trade union etc.
The trainers recommended that, training also should be given for trade union leaders and owners side (supervisors).
