Bangladesh Free Trade Unions Congress – BFTUC

The Bangladesh Free Trade Union Congress (BFTUC) is the voice of the Bangladeshi workers at home and abroad.

Its mission is empowerment of men and women workers at workplaces and in society, promotion and defense of workers’ rights and interests at national level through various forms of legal interventions, active social dialogue engagement, tripartite and bipartite cooperation, campaign, advocacy and mobilization of decent work actions.

As a forward looking modern national workers organization, it upholds the principal of democratic and independent trade union practices and culture at national, industrial sectors and workplaces level.

BFTUC is the largest independent national federation of trade unions in Bangladesh established in 1983 which currently represent 1,56,000 members in public and private sector as well as workers at  informal economy. Around 35% of its present membership is female and youth.

It is governed by bi-annual General Council and an elected Executive Board.

BFTUC is one of a founder member organization of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the ITUC- Asia and Pacific Regional Organization (ITUC-AP) and South Asian Regional Trade Union Council (SARTUC).

It also made an important lead contribution at the formation of Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Foundation (OSHE) and liked-up with the Asian Network for Rights of Occupational and Environmental Accident Victims (ANROEV).

BFTUC affiliates are affiliated with various Global Union Federations (GUFs) and various other informal workers network namely the Street Net International, Home-Net.
